Artist Kaori Ukaji will be exhibiting her traveling solo exhibition, “Serenely Proliferating,” from Friday through Aug. 26 at the East Hawaii Cultural Center-Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art.
The opening reception with Ukaji is from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the EHCC Gallery.
Ukaji originally created these works for the Artists of Hawaii 2017 Exhibit at the Honolulu Museum of Art. She was awarded the Jim Winters Award for 3-D Design, the Roselle Davenport Award for Artistic Excellence and the Rueban Tam Award.
Her work reflects her personal response to a false cancer diagnosis and her relationship with womanhood.
“Having a life review at this time, at 50, which started from a false cancer diagnosis, is a very meaningful period for the rest of my life,” Ukaji said.
“This work has developed from these thoughts and has developed more deeply within me.”
